2019 Candidate Forum

Thank you to all who attended the NHCC’s 2019 Candidate Forum on Tuesday 10/8/19, particularly the candidates who took time out of their busy schedules during campaign season. We received a very nice compliment from Councilmember John Stokes, who said our questions were very good and our forum was probably the best he’d attended. That is due to the planning & thoughtful questions put together by long-time NH resident/2010 NHCC president/former Planning Commission Chair, Michelle Hilhorst. Way to go, Michelle!

If you’d like to see video of the forum we’ve posted it in two segments to our Facebook page. Just click on the links below:
Bellevue School Board
Bellevue City Council

Unfortunately, neither of the Public Hospital District 1 (Valley) candidates were able to join us. You can read their statements in the Voters Guide here.

Finally, LOCAL ELECTIONS MATTER. We encourage all Newport Hills residents to register to vote, do their research on candidates & issues, and VOTE!

Farewell, Dr. Dwyer

Dr. Tom Dwyer, who retired from his general dentistry practice in the center of Newport Hills in late 2018, has  passed away at age 82. He maintained healthy smiles on the hill for more than 40 years, keeping his practice open until he was physically no longer able to work. He loved his patients!

Besides being a wonderful dentist, Dr. Tom was an anchor of our neighborhood and a faithful supporter of the Newport Hills Community Club. He will be missed!

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 12, at 10AM at St. Monica’s Catholic Church (4320 87th Ave. SE, on Mercer Island) and were well attended by several generations of Newport Hills families whose lives Dr. Tom touched as a friend, neighbor, and dentist.
