Seeking crafters, neighborhood small businesses & organizations for “Welcome to Summer” Block Party 6/17

Hi everyone:

The NHCC will not be hosting the 4th of July Picnic & Children’s Parade this year. The volunteer base has dwindled to the point that such an event is no longer sustainable. I’m a little sad about that but I think it indicates how Newport Hills is changing. With that said, we’re always looking for new ways to bring the community together, so Ann Brashear & I have been working with Grey Coast CrossFit and our other shopping center merchants to host a “Welcome to Summer” Block Party event on Saturday, June 17, 11AM- 2PM.

The Block Party will provide an opportunity to meet your neighbors while visiting shopping center businesses and craft vendor/neighborhood small business/local organizations tables. Grey Coast CrossFit is going to open the event with a FREE all ages/all fitness levels workout at 10 AM, then roll up their back door at 11AM to host an Open House and serve some BBQ (I believe it’s hot dogs and some sides… details pending). We’re encouraging each of the businesses to offer a drawing for a gift certificate or a product. We’ll line the covered walkway with crafters, neighborhood small businesses, and local organizations (youth, sports, special interests, etc.). I’m working to get BPD to send a cruiser and BFD to send a fire truck for a mini “touch the truck” event. I’m also working with some of our businesses to put on scheduled demonstrations (dance, martial arts, etc.). Maybe we’ll bring back the King of the Hill Car Show’s famous dog costume parade- who knows? I will post more details as we get closer to the event.

Right now we’re looking for neighborhood crafters and small businesses that would like to set up a table to sell their goods or promote their services. If you know a local organization that would like to set up a table (youth sports, scouts, school clubs or PTAs, adult social clubs, service organizations, etc.) please put them in touch with me. We’re keeping the spaces reserved for Newport Hills/Lake Heights residents first, but if we find we still have space we might open it up to our nearby neighborhoods. We WILL be inviting our nearby neighborhoods to attend as we want to show off how proud we are of Newport Hills and support our local businesses!

If you’d like to participate please contact me via email: nh_shopping@newporthillscommunityclub.org
